Is it Eggnog season yet?
We just got our Christmas tree in the house!
Now Holiday Spirit is officially in full swing. Anyone else busy with all the decorations, holiday parties, Christmas recipes, gift list?
Don’t forget to take a moment to bring and share happiness, the true holiday spirit.
With the holidays just around the corner, what else is more festive than Eggnog French Toast?
This simple, drool-worthy french toast will have your family thinking you spent hours in the kitchen and will have them go back for more.
Why is this Holiday Eggnog Different from the Traditional Version
Traditionally, eggnog includes lots of sugar, cream, and of course, eggs. However, this Eggnog recipe is vegan, dairy-free and no refined sugar.
The dairy-free eggnog is really the star of the show here.
A simple mix of coconut milk, maple syrup, nutmeg (which is the key ingredient!), cinnamon and cloves make up this guilt-free eggnog.
First of all, the fact that it only has 5 ingredients and still tastes just like eggnog BLOWS. MY. MIND.
If you look at the ingredients and nutrition facts of the eggnog that you can find in grocery stores it doesn’t even compare.
I chose to use coconut milk in this recipe because it has a creamy, velvety texture that mimics a traditional eggnog recipe.
The eggnog french toasts with fresh toppings such as nuts or berries, making it a perfectly balanced breakfast that will fuel you all morning long.
How to Make Eggnog French Toast
For the french toast part, you can really use any kind of bread base that you prefer.
However, I’ve found that thicker toasts such as sourdough and challah bread hold up really well with this recipe.
Whichever bread type you decide to use, the method is still the same.
It’s the traditional old-school way of coating your toast with egg mixture and letting it brown on a griddle or in a pan.
I added some vanilla extract to the egg mixture to add some depth and complement the nutmeg and cinnamon used in the eggnog.
Vegan Frech Toast Alternative
Instead of using egg in this recipe you can use a flax egg, made from ground flax seeds and water or plant-based milk.
You will still get that crispy toasted exterior with the fluffy center that makes up the perfect French toast and can support all of your toppings.
How to Serve Eggnog French Toast
Some of my favorite ways to top this decadent french toast include:
- Dairy-Free Whipped Cream
- Chocolate Chips
- Fresh Berries
- Greek Yogurt
- Granola (see my Gingerbread Granola recipe)
- Warm maple syrup
- Toasted almonds or walnuts
- Dried cranberries
As you can see, the possibilities are only limited to your imagination. This would be the perfect dish to set up a buffet-style breakfast bar if you plan on having a large crowd over for the holidays. Such a crowd-pleaser!
