Asian Burgers {with Pork & Chicken}
Ditch the ordinary burgers. This Asian burger recipe will take you to flavor town. The juicy, moist and incredibly flavorful burger patties are made with a mix of ground chicken and ground pork, and are seasoned with Chinese Five Spice, coconut aminos and lots of aromatic. You won’t be able to eat burgers any other way.
This is not your average ketchup and mustard situation. We are topping the burgers off with 2 ingredient siracha mayo elevates the flavor profile to a whole new different level.
We are talking about a symphony of savory, sweet and spicy that you have never experienced before.
Not going to lie, I never had real homemade burgers before I came to America when I was 17.
I always thought burgers were boring and fatty, until I had a real homemade burger with quality ground meat and grilled to perfection.
Since that day to this, I have loved using ground meat for burgers or meatballs. Because there are so many ways to create different flavors, and the ground meat can absorb all the flavors you add in.
For this Asian burger recipe, I used a mix of ground chicken and ground pork. Because ground pork is juicy, umami, and fatty, ground chicken balances the texture with lean meat and milder flavor.
Ingredients for Asian Burgers
Ground Pork and Ground Chicken create a great burger mix. We use a lot of pork in Asian cooking. For example, my parents’ famous dumpling recipe is made with ground pork only. Occasionally you can find chicken dumplings as well. The ground pork adds juiciness and an umami flavor while the ground chicken balances the texture with its leaner meat.
Sesame oil has a nutty and earthy taste. its aroma is very distinct and strong. So you do not need a lot.
Chinese Five Spice is earthy, sweet warm, and complex. It is perfect to be used in marinating most meat that I have cooked within Asian cuisine.
Ginger, Green Onion, and Garlic are the three musketeers in Chinese cooking. They provide strong, distinct and fragrant aromatic to the burger mix. You can use ground ginger or fresh ginger for this recipe.
Egg works great as a binder in burger mix.
Salt to taste
Coconut Aminos adds that signature Asian flavor to this burger mix without any soy sauce.
How to Make Asian Burger with Ground Pork & Chicken
For the best flavor result, let the burger mix sit in the fridge covered for 2 hours.
SO much flavor
The Best Sauce to Add to the Burger: Sriracha Mayo
No Burger is complete without a killer sauce.
Sriracha mayo has always been one of my favorite condiments. In my opinion, it incorporates both the Eastern and Western worlds.
Mayo is often tangy, salty and a little bit sweet while sriracha brings in the spicy and emphasizes the umami and sweet notes.
It adds even more depth to the Asian burgers and creates a true flavor explosion in your mouth.
Put the “Cherries” on Top
Not actual cherries, don’t worry. I meant toppings!
Pickled vegetables or slaws made with vegetables like cucumber, carrots and cabbage add a refreshing crunch.
A few chopped scallions may be a bit too potent for some, but if you are a fan, it truly add that zestiness and sweetness.
Fresh cilantro
Crispy fried shallots or wonton strips that you can purchase at the grocery store adds a nice crunch and create a delightful textural contrast as well.
Peanut Sauce can also be a great addition to that pop of salty flavor and nuttiness.
