These turkey burgers are so juicy and flavorful on the inside and crispy on the outside. Paired with a couple of thick slices of sweet potato “buns”, this new way to eat turkey burgers makes the most perfect meal and for your upcoming summer grill parties! Summer is in full force here in Charlotte! This delicious turkey burger recipe is here just in time for you to rock the local summer block party.
Not gonna lie, these turkey burgers are possibly the best kind I have made. Ever. They are packed with veggies, aromatic seasonings, grilled or pan-seared to perfection, then topped with fresh avocado in between a couple of slices of thick and crispy sweet potato buns. Hea-ven-LY!

Why I love These Turkey Burgers

Confession – Growing up I never liked ground meat. I was one of those picky children. But now, I love prepping turkey or bison burgers, or Italian meatballs for dinner and meal prep almost every week.

1. Easy Way to Pack Veggies and Flavors

I can easily pack veggies and so much flavor in these patties. Every bite is like an explosion of flavors.

2. Great for Meal Prep

Unlike beef or bison burgers, turkey burgers have to be fully cooked. I always hesitate to reheat my bison burgers because I don’t want to ruin the perfect medium-rare on the inside. On the other hand, these turkey burgers are just as tasty and juicy as when they freshly come off of the grill as they are re-heated the following day. I always make a batch or two on the weekend and save them for the week as a healthy, quick and satisfying dinner.

What to pack in These Turkey Burgers

A Variety of Vegetables

Cilantro

Fresh cilantro elevates the flavor of these turkey burgers. I love using cilantro in a lot of my recipes (thanks to my dad’s home cooking inspiration). You probably see me meal prepping egg muffins on my Instagram stories every Sunday with fresh cilantro. Tip: When buying cilantro, you want to make sure the bunch smells very strong. The more fragrant they are, the fresher they are.

Poblano peppers

Red or yellow bell peppers also are amazing in these turkey burgers. I especially adore poblano peppers because they add a little extra heat to the burgers.

Onion and Garlic

Needless to say, these two are my aromatic essentials. I could probably eat a bowl of sautéed onion and garlic on its own (I’ve never done it, but I could. Just saying).

The Best Ways to Cook Turkey Burgers

1. Cast Iron Skillet

The cast iron gives a nice crispy exterior while simultaneously mimicking a grill top.

2. Grill

The key is to cook turkey burgers in very hot oil on medium heat so we can have the crispiness on the outside, juicy and moist texture on the inside. Therefore either you are using a grill or cast-iron skillet, make sure you preheat the greased grill or cast iron pan really well. Turn the heat down to medium right before putting the turkey burgers in to prevent them from burning.

How to Serve Your Turkey Burgers

1. With Lettuce Wrap for a Crunchy Exterior and Extra Veggie Option

2. With Sweet Potato Bun

3. “Bun-less” Buddha Bowl for a Satisfying Lunch Delight

These turkey burgers are incredibly juicy and tender on the inside, super crispy on the outside. Not only they are so delicious but also packed with veggies and flavors. Spices

  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp sweet paprika

Instructions

  • Heat up 1 tbsp avocado oil in a pan, saute all the veggies, aromatic for about 3-4 minutes or until soft and fragrant. Set aside to cool.
  • In a mixing bowl, mix the turkey, egg, almond flour and 2 tbsp avocado oil.
  • Add sautted veggies and spices. Mix gently with your hands until the veggies are evenly distributed through the turkey meat.
