Have you ever tried making French toast sticks in your air fryer? Soft on the inside and extra crispy on the outside – breakfast game changer!

On those mornings where I’m craving something sweet and simple, I rely on my trusted air fryer.

When I buy a loaf of brioche and it’s a few days old, this is my go-to recipe. Not only does it take me 15 minutes from start to finish, but it leaves my whole house smelling like a bakery.

And Ollie loves anything in stick form – optimal for toddler hand grabbing.

IS AN AIR FRYER GOOD FOR MAKING FRENCH TOAST?

An air fryer might be the new, best way to make French toast sticks!

I have yet to make something in my air fryer that hasn’t turned out fantastic. It crisps up food evenly, better than with the traditional method of pan-frying French Toast.

With the added bonus that its healthier and tastes even better than your childhood Eggo French Toast Sticks!

Not to mention, it makes the cooking process hand off and lets me focus on other breakfast goodies at the same time.

Air fryer French toast saves me so much time cooking and if you are a busy mom like me, you know the worst part is cleanup. To simplify the process, add aluminum foil as your base and simply throw away after baking!

WHICH BREAD IS BEST FOR FRENCH TOAST?

French toast bread is best made with stale bread. You can use a fresh loaf, but stale bread absorbs the egg mixture better.

This is the best way I’ve found to use up all my old bread!

When it comes to the type of bread, any bread works fine, but my favorite is brioche. It’s super thick, so when I put it in the air fryer it gets crispy on the outside, but remains extra soft and fluffy on the inside.

The other options I like are French bread and challah because they are super sturdy and delicious!

Left bowl shows the egg mixture, the right bowl is showing the bread soaking in the mix

Start by mixing the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon in a bowl.

Then slice the brioche into stick shape. You should have about 3 – 4 sticks per slice.

I like my French toast sticks fat and chunky. If you prefer crispier thinner slices, you can do so as well.

Next, cover the brioche sticks thoroughly with the egg mixture. Turn them a few times and let them soak up the mixture for about 1 minute.

Then, preheat the air fryer at 375F and lightly spray the frying basket.

Finally, place the French toast sticks on the basket. Make sure to not overcrowd the basket so each stick can get toasted properly on all sides.

Air fry about 10 minutes or desired crispiness. Flip the French toast sticks half-way.

Additionally, if desired, sprinkle some powdered sugar on top and serve with maple syrup.

Enjoy!

HOW TO STORE AIR FRYER FRENCH TOAST

Store the air fryer French toast sticks in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.

The best part – you can freeze it and reheat on those days where you are feeling extra lazy.

To reheat, let the frozen French toast sticks thaw in room temperature for half an hour. Then, preheat the air fryer 350 F and cook for 5 minutes or so or until heated through.

WHAT IS THE TRICK FOR AMAZING FRENCH TOAST?

Stale bread: A dryer bread holds the egg mixture better, making every French toast bite more flavorful.

Thick slices: I am a brioche lover. If you want your air fryer French toast sticks perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, use thick slices.

Soaking for Longer: soak the French toast bread in the egg mixture for a longer time for extra flavor absorption.

Wider Bowl: I like to use a wider bowl so that I can put all the pieces of bread in the egg mixture at once.

Extra Toppings: My favorite part of French toast is the toppings! Get creative: nuts, fruit, butter, and whipped cream!

Finally, the secret to French Toast Stick is letting the air fryer do all the hard work!
